With winter upon us, it’s important to ensure your home plumbing is ready for the cold weather. Taking a few simple steps to winterize your home plumbing can save you time and money by preventing costly water damage or frozen pipes.

Here are five ways to winterize your home plumbing!

INSULATE YOUR PIPES

When the weather gets really cold, you need to help your pipes stay warm. Wrapping exposed pipes with insulation will help keep them from freezing in extreme temperatures. In addition to insulating your pipes, make sure any gaps around your windows, doors, and other openings are properly sealed off so that cold air won’t reach your pipes.

SHUT OFF OUTDOOR FAUCETS

Be sure to shut off your outdoor faucets before the first freeze of winter hits as this will reduce the chances of the lines freezing over and bursting when temperatures drop too low!

CHECK FOR LEAKS
